Jupiter & Mars Announced for PS4
New studio, Tigertron, announces their first game, Jupiter & Mars. First shown at PSX 2017, this underwater adventure puts the player in control of a dolphin named Jupiter. The AI controlled companion dolphin, Mars, will accompany the player and assist in restoring life to the polluted ocean.
While the game may be played on any PS4 system, Jupiter & Mars is designed primarily for VR. The developers want the player to be immersed in the underwater world, which is why VR is the focus here. Additionally, the developers have stated that the gameplay draws inspiration from Ico and The Last Guardian.
According to the developers, music plays an integral role in the game despite it not being a music game. With some of the talent behind Lumines: Electronic Symphony working on the game, Jupiter & Mars is sure to be quite the audio-visual trip. In case you need any more convincing on the matter, Tetsuya Mizuguchi himself (of Rez and Lumines fame) has given his blessing to this game, even going as far as telling James Mielke, “this is the game you were born to make”.
The game leans heavily into environmentalist themes. Tigertron is so dedicated to creating a more environmentally conscientious world that they’re “...donating a portion of our proceeds to organizations dedicated to preserving the planet for future generations to come”.
Jupiter and Mars is set to release Q2 2018 for PS4 and PS VR.
